Where micro cement works

At only 2–3 mm thick, micro cement bonds over sound tile, board, screed or plaster, so floor levels and thresholds usually stay put. It is used on floors, stairs and landings, feature and full walls, wet rooms, vanity tops and bar fronts.

The finish is hand-trowelled, so it carries a soft cloudy movement rather than reading like flat paint.

Tones and sheens

A wide tonal range from pale limestone and greige through to deep charcoal, finished matte, satin or polished. Matte and satin are the usual choice on floors and shower bases for grip.

Bathrooms and wet rooms

Wet areas are tanked before the micro cement goes on and sealed afterwards — that order is what makes it a proper bathroom surface rather than a decorative gamble.

How the job runs

Survey and sample

Substrate, movement and use are checked, and a sample board is left in your own light.

Preparation

Loose material removed, joints treated, wet areas tanked with a waterproof membrane.

Base coats

Two reinforced base coats over fibreglass mesh to lock against hairline cracking.

Finish coats

Two fine micro cement coats trowelled and worked back for movement.

Seal

Primer plus two coats of sealer, left to cure before use.

Common questions

Can micro cement go over tiles?

Yes, where the tiles are well bonded. Grout lines are filled and the surface primed and meshed first.

Does it crack?

The mesh-reinforced base coats and treated movement joints are what prevent hairline cracking — skipping them is the usual cause of failure.

Is it hard-wearing underfoot?

Sealed with a polyurethane floor sealer it handles hallways, kitchens and stairs in everyday domestic use.
