What a feature wall involves
A feature wall is the most direct way to get real Venetian plaster into a room. The wall is prepared flat, primed with a grip coat, then built up in six to eight wafer-thin passes of lime putty and marble flour. Depth comes from those layers, not from the colour on the surface — which is why the finish keeps moving as the light changes through the day.
Chimney breasts, media walls, headboard walls, dining walls and hallway returns are the usual candidates. Most take one to two days on site once the wall is ready.
Choosing the finish and colour
Stucco Veneziano gives the classic mirror polish and the most translucent depth. Marmorino keeps a matte stone body with a softer cloud. Spatolato leaves the trowel visible for a more graphic, contemporary wall.
Colour is mixed to sample rather than picked from a chart. Sample boards are left in the room so you can see them against your own daylight and lighting before anything is committed to the wall.
Living with it
Sealed with wax or a breathable topcoat, a Venetian feature wall wipes clean, will not peel like paint and can be re-burnished years later. In kitchens and bathrooms the sealer is upgraded to handle steam and splashing.

How the job runs

Survey and sample
We look at the wall, the light and the lighting, then leave sample boards in the room in the shortlisted tones and sheens.

Preparation
The wall is made flat, filled and sanded, then primed with a tinted grip coat so the plaster keys and the colour sits true.

Base passes
Two to three base coats of lime putty and marble flour are laid to build the body of the finish.

Polish coats
Further wafer-thin passes are trowelled and burnished, working the surface until the depth and movement come through.

Seal and tidy
Wax or breathable sealer is applied, the room is cleared and you get aftercare notes.
